In 1870, Nikolai Grigorovich-Barsky acquired the estate on Proreznaya Street, 17, “for the construction of a stone house”. After 3 years the project of the house in two floors was made by architect P. Fedorov. In 1902, a third floor was added. In 1912-1913, a civilian engineer, A. Gilevich, carried out a new reconstruction, having attached a fourth, and decorated the facade in the modernist style. Before the appearance of the Young Theater in it, the house functioned as profitable, there were shops on the first floor.

After the completion of the first period of the activities of the Young, the Polish theater worked in the building for some time. Subsequently, the so-called “House of the Red Army and Fleet” was located here. This is one of the few houses on Proreznaya that survived the Second World War. During 1944-1985, the Komsomolets of Ukraine cinema worked here. From 1986 to the house on Proreznaya, the theater returned again, at that time the Youth Theater. Thus began the second stage of the life of the Young.

The aim of the theater was the desire to develop the realistic traditions of the luminaries and to realize the dreams of creating a new Ukrainian theater, which was not inferior to the best European ones. To present the Ukrainian theatrical art to the level of world culture is the task that this creative team carried out.

The theater introduced the audience with an old Ukrainian den (“Christmas Nativity Scene”), masterpieces of Ukrainian and world classics, and modern drama.
