The village of Great Sorochintsy (Great Sorochintsy) in Poltava region from the XIX century is famous as the venue for the most colorful fair in Ukraine. It gained special popularity after the publication of the famous story "Sorochinsky Fair" by the Ukrainian writer N. Gogol, who was a native of the village of Sorochintsy.
Now the event under the brand "Sorochinsky Fairs" is not just a major shopping holiday, where leading companies from Ukraine and other countries present their products. It is also a bright theatrical performance with the participation of the heroes of N. Gogol and folk groups, as well as an extensive concert and entertainment program.
Last year, the National Sorochinskaya Fair celebrated its 20th anniversary.
The holding of the Sorochinsky Fair 2019 is scheduled, as usual, for the penultimate week of August, and the climax will have to be the last weekend of the month. The grand opening is expected on Tuesday, August 20, at 11:00, on the Main Stage. The ceremony was traditionally attended by the National Honored Bandurist Band named after GI Maiboroda. Guests will be greeted by the heroes of Gogol and Nikolai Gogol himself.
Each district of Poltava region and most regions of the country represent their achievements at the Sorochinsky Fair. Among the goods traded at the fair are food and beverages, clothing and footwear, fur products, textile goods, decorations, gardening tools and agricultural equipment and fertilizers, building materials, honey, dishes and much more.
Every year, the Sorochinsky Fair is visited by more than 500 thousand people. Up to 1,500 enterprises, entrepreneurs and craftsmen from Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Germany and Poland take part in it.
Many stars of the Ukrainian scene annually take part in the music program of the Sorochinsky Fair. Entrance to music events on the main stage in recent years is paid.
